Hmph.
I'll have to square off on you about the BMW. I have a /5 I have had for 10+
years. I cut my mechanical teeth on the thing. Thet poor bike has put up
with abuse, neglect, mistakes and daily dependability up until this last
winter. As for the soul department, that is a matter of perception. While
other bikes ake a lot of ruckus about speed, looks, noise etc. The beemer
simply fires up and disappears around the next bend, hunting up new places
to be. The beemer is a travelers bike. NOt a road ripper, thought it can
shred some corners. Not a cruiser, though 500 mile days are fairly
effortless.

In my own case, I am sad to say, I have given the beemer a rest. Oh she'll
run just fine, but she needs a fair amount of money and attention after the
past 10 years we have been paired. I had planned on doing it this winter,
but have the opportunity to add a dual sport to my stable instead.

NOw I'm not saying the beemer is better than guzzis or hd or anything else.
The song is there, she just sings it softly.

Tell ya what Jeff, if Moto is your local shop, then you are local to me. I
live up in Snohomish. Here's a bet. Ride some other bike to work for the
next 30 days. Then on the first crisp day after that 30 (be november or so)
take the beemer on an all day ride. Nothing fancy. Just go ride some roads
up by marysville, snohomish, monroe or something that you haven't been to or
haven't in a while. Have a cup of coffee somewheres. But do no errands. Just
ride. Then get on back home just as it gets dark. if after that you still
say there is no soul in the old beemer...I'll buy the first round at the
buckaroo.

Oh and since I am local...gimme a holler if you get stuck with the Ambo.
Chances are I have been there before and showing is a lot better than email.

well, my old flame is still a bmw. She's got about 70,000 miles on the
frame
up rebuild and going strong. She's a standard, very dependable no-nonsense
workman-like bike. I guess I'm saying she doesn't have soul. Not in bad
way
like a UJM, but not oozing gobs of character (or other stuff). hah watch
her
get back at me during the commute tomorrow morning :).

I guess that is the reason I started fooling with the old harleys. Looking
for
something perhaps not as dependable but with soul. I found myself at odds
with
the local harley boutique set. The "dealer" just dealt in aftermarket
chrome
doo-dads.

I saw my first guzzi and *man* that bike just called out to me. It's got
gobs
of character (and rust). My local guzzi dealer is Moto International. Now
thats
a dealership. I picked up a copy of Guzziology and was blown away. Theres
this
whole body of lore that comes with the marque. It's got history.

I guess I'm not explaining it too well, but it's too hard to think straight
with
guzzi on the brain.

 Jeff,
I'm sure others more proficient at mechanicals will respond knowledgeably
to
your questions but I have a question for you, when you get the time; what
makes you intrigued by Guzzis as opposed to American iron or BMWs?
Thanks,
