Hey Jason,

Yeh, Walnut is preferred to sand or glass bead, I'd tape all races, oil
lines ect. off. Even then it's allot of cleaning, but worth it.Afterward,
I'd soak everything in hot soapy water, then blow all oil passageways out.
Walnut will be quick and efficient.
On my Ambo I didn't have access to walnut, ended up using a fine glass bead
at a VERY low pressure. The heads, I disassembled, taped off the seats then
taped off the whole combustion chamber/ gasket surface on top of it. For the
carbon inside the chamber I just took my time with a brass brush, but like I
said I was using glass bead, you'll get away with allot more using walnut.

Hi all,

I'm kind of slowly rebuilding my old G5 and I wanted to get the
engine/tranny/rear drive casings clean before I reassemble it. This is
the first time I've been at all concerned about appearance, but hey,
I'm experimenting. I know it's not a loop, but this list harbors most
of the fanatical mechanics, and is a lot easier to navigate than the
general list. Besides, I can apply the info when and if I rebuild my
Eldo. But considering how long this one is taking...
Anyway, at work we have a new blast cabinet with mild abrasive (I think
walnut husk). Is this an appropriate way to clean the cases? How about
the combustion chamber? And once that's done, do ya'll put any kind of
coating on the (outsides) to keep it from oxidizing?

Thanks,
Jason
