I have only seen it used. But it is chunks of soda. Literally. and it
breaks
down into a fine powder as it is used.

You might try the soda medium on the cases. It breaks down better with
less
chance of stray peices in nooks and crannies. just a thought. oh and the
heads (combustion chamber) I'd leave alone if possible. too many places
for
blast medium or carbon to block up an oil line. Unless you want to spend
the
extra time making absolutely sure all the crannies in the rather rough
casting on these fine machines is absolutely clean.

As for keepin the oxidation off the cases....don't let it sit... ;-}

Hi all,

I'm kind of slowly rebuilding my old G5 and I wanted to get the
engine/tranny/rear drive casings clean before I reassemble it. This is
the first time I've been at all concerned about appearance, but hey,
I'm experimenting. I know it's not a loop, but this list harbors most
of the fanatical mechanics, and is a lot easier to navigate than the
general list. Besides, I can apply the info when and if I rebuild my
Eldo. But considering how long this one is taking...
Anyway, at work we have a new blast cabinet with mild abrasive (I think
walnut husk). Is this an appropriate way to clean the cases? How
about

the combustion chamber? And once that's done, do ya'll put any kind of
coating on the (outsides) to keep it from oxidizing?

Thanks,
Jason
