Jeff,

The fork tube collars do indeed have a right-hand (standard) thread. A
couple of suggestions:

1) Clamp the axle end of the fork slider in a vise and support the other
end (fork tube) on something that is not going to move when you go to
crank on the thing. Make sure that you can get a good downward force on
the assembly when you go to unscrew the collar.

2) See if you can find a RIGID brand strap wrench. Big 'un.

3) Gary Cheek and I made up a tool for this out of a piece of chrome
moly steel and an old wrench. If you want to borrow it I could probably
ship it to you, provided that you publicly gave your most excellent
promise to return it promptly, and sent Dave Otis ten bucks to help
support the list. Of course, you could also rent one of these tools from
Moto International.

I've tried heat, penetrating oil, strap wrenches, you name it. I'm to
the
point
where I'm seriously afraid i'm going to break something.

someone please tell me they are not a reverse thread and I've been
grunting
away
in the wrong direction for the last couple of days.
