John:

You have several options for getting spots alongside the headlights.

If you have the police windshield mounts designed for use with the
Harley-style shield, you can just bolt up the "J"-shaped spotlight
brackets used on the 1960-1984 Harley FLH and mount spots to them.
These are cheap through the aftermarket, but if you want good chrome
and good lights, get the H-D stuff. Chicago H-D offeres a 20 percent
discount.

I have these style mounts, and they're correct in that many police
departments insisted on this set-up so they could use their stock of
Harley lights on their Guzzis. Also, it's what was used on the police
Guzzis in the movie "Harold and Maude." My Eldo's named Maude, so I
had to do it that way . . .

If you don't have the police shield mounts, there are still several ways:

1) Get the real Guzzi mounting studs for the early Ambo police bikes
that replace the headlight bolts and find spots to mount to them.
Moto International had a stack of them last I checked. I have a set
of these but haven't used them. They require use of spots with a
"clevis"-style lower mount (versus a threaded stud).

2) Drill out and tap the bolt holes in your headlight buckets so that
the mounting studs on the spotlights can be threaded into the bucket
and lock-bolted in place. This way looks good, but I didn't do it
because I avoid modifying old stock stuff whenever possible. Then
again, some police departments may have done this in the 70s. so it
could be considered "stock" someday.

3) Building mounts to allow the spots to bolt to the chrome
turnsignal brackets. I've seen this but can't remember the specifics

BTW, I think the old loopers will someday be quite valuable if kept
stock, that's why I favor keeping the stock parts stock, or at least
keeping the stock parts around to put back on someday.

I am going to replace the spotlights I have with some more Guzzi
style lights if avaliable. Which Guzzi shop would have the ones that
clamp on to the headlight brackets in line instead of up high like
some of the LAPD type?
