My comment to you was based on the subject line......that joke was posted to the "Bullshit" list, which was set up for those of us who like to talk about more than just technical stuff. So the joke was not innappropriate on that list.
Your first line, which I copied above explains the problem........what is tasteless to you may not be tasteless to others. This is why several of us left Sheldons Personal Guzzi List, because too many people were trying to impose their standards on everyone else.
I'm sure you mean no harm, and I don't agree with anyone bashing you either. Just please remember that we are all different. It is one thing to say that you are offended or that you find something to be tasteless. It is your right to perceive anything you want any way you want. But don't make that decision for me. If the level of tastelessness exceeds your limit, you can choose to unsubscribe from the list.
I agree with you that the lists are great for meeting people and getting information. Personally, though I find someone dictating to others about posting to be as offensive as you find the posts.
