Yeh, I believe they do. Check the pinch bolts also. The more I think about
it , the more I believe it's your lock steering stem locknuts. Just a tiny
bit too much free play there and it will produce the what your talking
about. I just can't picture anything inside the front tubes causing that(a
broken spring maybe?(sort of far fetched but...)). For the sake of it I
would also look at the huge nut underneath the lower tree that holds the
steering stem to it. Those things usually feel like they're welded on,
better safe than sorry though.
I got to go. I'll try to do more figurin' on it tonight also.

I'll have to look more closely at the steering head. I didn't have the jack
handy to get the front wheel off the ground. Without it it's hard for me to
lift the front of the bike (as it is on the centerstand) and see if there is
any play there.

As for the "bang". It's more like a "knock" when I hit a big bump. Like
something is hitting the top of the tubes. I have noticed it before over
big bumps but it seems to happen more easily now. I wonder if the fork tubes
have slid down? Don't the fork plugs hold them at the top though.

Time to get my Loop memory back :-) It's been a while since I was last in
there.

Regards...Ian

Hey Ian,
Yup, real quiet. Grey, raining, about 40 degrees here in Detroit. Beautiful
weekend here though.
Anyways, the very first thing that comes to mind are loose stering stem
locknuts.

What do you mean that it bangs when the springs hit the top of the tubes?
Can't picture it.
