Hi Robert;
The stainless clamp is like a aviation clamp with a t bolt and swival washer locknut. The threaded bolt protrudes past the lock nut far enough that a piece of flat bar can be bolted to it. The flat bar is bolted to the small bolt, bottom, holding the crash bars on.The flat bar is made out of aluminum about one and a half to two inches long with a slight twist in it. I have stainless headers and the clamp has gone slightly golden yellow just like the headers and you can hardly notice the clamp on the hrader pipe! The rest is hiden in behind the pipe from the looking from side.
These are after market clamps made for motorcycles, 1 1/2 inch to 1 5/8 inch.

Thanks for the reply. After reading your e-mail I ran out to the shed to try to understand what you are talking about - a muffler clamp mounted with a very small clamp off the crash bar - I guess I can see how you may clamp something from the carsh bar to the header but not exactly. Do you know where any pictures of this item exist? I definitely would want to explore this further. Thanks again for the information. If I can't get these type of clamps you are suggesting I will buy your regular clamps. thanks, Bob Hawkes

Hi Robert;
I have several and can mail you some if you like , donot use them myself . What works better for me is a stainless steel 1 1/2 inch muffler clamp made for motor cycles, mounted with a very small hidden braket off the crash bar mount.Clamp bolt mounted down and inside so hidden. Works better closer up to the front of the header nut. No paint damage to the frame. After market stainless muffler clamps can be bought any where for 5 or 6 bucks !

Sorry....when it comes to the headers...it doesn't work like that.

It is important to get the headers on the correct side because if you don't they will interfere with the crash bars and not mount up right.

When I was installing my new headers I didn't think that they were LH/RH side specific. I lost the coin toss and ended up having to reinstall the headers to their correct sides.

The worst part about it all was having to deal with the Permatex gasket sealant that was getting on everything. I had to take an extra swig of beer :-)

I don't know whether one cylinder is ahead of the other or not. As far I I can tell, you pick up one of the header pipes (doesn't matter which one) and use it. The one you don't use is the one that is left. Beauty of this method is that it is repeatable. Works the same way every time, and I don't even need to check the bike.
