I'm not exactly a new member, have been quietly lurking for some time now
after leaving the "other list". I have been riding Guzzi's for over 25
years, mostly on a T-3 I bought nearly new in 78. I still have it , a
Convert and an Eldorado. The Eldorado I aquired at a farm auction in the
early 80's, it didn't have many miles and was complete but hadn't had the
best of care. Guzzi's at farm auctions in the central part of NE at the
time (and maybe even now) were not heavily sought after items. But we all
see beauty in different things and I bought it, took it home, cleaned the
carbs, fresh oil and gas, and you know the rest of the story. I rode it off
and on for several years, and then stupidity set in and I sold it. I always
wanted another one and the guy I sold it to really didn't ride it that much,
nor was he into motorcycles that much either. It sat in storage for several
years and I ended up buying it back, for what I sold it to him for, which
was 1300 dollars. I failed to let him know that they were worth a little
more than that, I guess he should have done his homework a little better.
It is still in decent condition, has about 25K miles on it but as we all
know time and inactivity are Guzzi's worst enemy. So I am faced with the
same question I have heard from others, do I do one of those expensive
complete restorations or do a mild tear down, replace what is needed, and
have a bike I could ride on a daily basis? Whatever I decide all this talk
about a national loop rally has me inspired to start working on it. Well
that's my story, your probably sorry you asked.
