Pete, and company,

I found a web site for a Kentucky state park near the KY-TN-VA border.
It is called Pine Mountain State Resort Park and has camping facilities
as well as lodge rooms available. Might be worth checking out. Here is a
description of the camping accomodations:

Primitive Camping
For unspoiled beauty, Pine Mountain is the perfect place to camp.
Surround yourself with nature in the 36-site campground. All campsites
are primitive (no electric hookups), and a central service building
offers showers and rest rooms. Grills, picnic tables, and a picnic
shelter are available.
Open April 1 - October 31. No advance reservations; check-out by 2:00
p.m. Site is not suitable for motor homes or other large vehicles. Rates
Pets are allowed if restrained.

The Park's web site is at:

I know that the Cumberland Gap area around the park is scenic and has
some good cycling roads. No info as to the disposition of the local
gendarmes.

Also, check out this site for some parks and private campgrounds on the
West side of Kentucky.

camp. I
like to ride to eat, etc. etc. and ride some more. Why not just a
base
camp with am and pm group rides and then just sit by the campfire and
kick
tires, swap stories and sample some Yuengling.
