I recall that when I bought a brand new Eldo in October of 1972, it was sold as a "1973" Guzzi, just like cars were dated as the "next years model".

Hey David did you like the 4LS brakes? I love them when set up right !
Yes ,Moto Guzzi in years gone by ,as well as many other manufacturers
made changes whenever they felt so inclined. Things began to get a
little stickier by the 70s.

Of course, 1974 models had the front disc
 brake.

No , some early 74 models had 4LS fronts and Amal carbs ,as did your
74 titled Eldos. Later 74 Eldos were equipped with disc fronts.
It is all too common to hear the 4 leading shoe equipped Eldos referred
to as "1973 1/2, "NO SUCH THING ! By 1973 the US government was getting
involved and the model year was declared by the manufacturer .This was
to monitor compliance with motor vehicle safety and emission standards
which changed every year.Mid year changes usually required government
approval but did not get a model year change to distinguish them.
The model year stamped on bikes built in late 1973 was 1974. As Greg
explained 1974 model Chevrolets were on the roads in late 1973.

( My 1974 Eldo was built on October of 1973 . Would some would say it
is a 1973 and 10/12 or 1973 and 5/6 ?

It apparently, was not uncommon for the Guzzi factory
to title mid to late year production bikes as the next
year up even though they were prior year models. I
personally have owned two 1973 Eldo's titled as 1974
models. Of course, 1974 models had the front disc
brake. Neither of my bikes had the juice brake. Both
had the amal carbs. Del Orto was on strike in mid 1973
so they used amals on that production run.

Hey David,
What's it like to ride the Loop in NYC. Manhattan
has some of the worst
streets for driving I have ever been on and
therefore challenging! The
Missus and I used to live in Chinatown on Kenmare
street, off Delancy. Did
you ever take the Loop way downtown on a quiet
Sunday morning for a ride?
(uhh, before Sept 11th of course - too bad all
that). Bob

Hey all, My project has yet to turn a wheel on
the road but the build
 plate reads:

JULY - 1974

1975 (MODEL)

#062662

As noted I live in NYC. The town so nice they
named it twice.

Yes, any Eldo could have a title that says 1975,
but I saw one with

1975 stamped into the data plate for the model
year and a build date

 of November 1974.

Sure, that data plate could have been faked, but
I also heard from

dealers of the time that there was a (small)
last batch of Eldos

brought in for 1975, so it could be legit.
