If you can find someone with a Metro, ask if you can look in their engine
compartment. Maybe the wires will either be color coded, or easily
traceable. I'd love to do this mod on my bike, but I'm not gonna fix what
ain't broke, especially if that alternator has a lot of gold in it! I used
to own a VW Rabbit, so I know what you mean by that. They're cursed with
expensive replacement parts too.
Hope this helps! Good luck.

Thank you for the reply. The alternator was purchased at AutoZone and I did
have them test it but it is done on a fool proof machine that will tell you
if it is good or bad but not anything else cable and adaptors are not
explained just connect wire d to adapter a type stuff. The counter person
knows nothing but how to look up parts. This alternator is for a Geo metro.
12volt 55amp rebuilt. From the price it has a significant gold content. The
label on it reads

World Class
remanufactured
14850 34
BARCODES
made in Japan J104

On the back of the alternator ther is the output post and a plug receptical
with three spade connectors. I think all the Metros use the same
alternator.
I will try again to find more info on my own but any help would be
appreciated.

Allan
Go to an auto parts house that can check alternators--take the Geo alt
with
you. Tell them to check it and then watch how they hook it up. If you
know
what type of Geo it came off of, the person checking will look up the
wiring
diagram to hook it up. Plus you get it tested to make sure that it's
working
correctly. It should be pretty easy to see the wiring when he does it.
You
might even write it down--offer the explanation that maybe the vehicle
is
wired wrong if you feel compelled to offer one. For what it's worth,
most
internally regulated alternators only use 2 wires--one from the switch
that
"excites" the alt, and the cable to the battery, (sometimes 3 wires--and
that's the one that depends--like to the idiot light or fuse
box--someplace
where it can "sense" current usage). It should be pretty easy to wire.

Another option is to visit your local library--they should have shop
manuals
for Geos or can get one. Trace the path of the alt wiring--it only goes
in
2
or 3 places. If you want, mail me the particular alt info and I'll look
into
it. I've never done it on a Loop, but I've switched a number on cars
over
 the years.

Hi.

The Guzzi you see on the map in Columbus, GA is going to stay
there
if
 I
don't get some help connecting this alternator. I've seen photos on
this

list of this conversion so I know at least some of you know what has
to
be

done to hook it up electricaly. Please help a fellow Looper. I will be
the

one not making the rallys until I can get this sorted out. I have
searched

on the net for an electrical diagram for this alternator and can find
nothing
there are no marking for the electrical connections in the plug, this
alternator was very expensive and I bought it with the idea that a few
of

the list members had done this before and would be willing to share
the

 knowedge.
I know that it takes a while to get info and type a reply and don't
expect

an immediate answer just tell me that someone is willing to help when
they

 get the time.

Only riding in my dreams,

Allan
