Hunter,

I too have a T cush hub on my Ambassador. I had the shoes redone by
Vintage Brake, where the owner suggested that in order to keep the dual
leading shoe rear brake from locking up we should "lay back" the front
edge of the shoes by about one inch. Basically, this means that the
front one inch of lining material is missing on each shoe, which keeps
the shoes from "camming in" when applied. It also makes the brakes very
progressive, although a bit weak (which is OK with me). I find that my
brakes are just right for most usage, but I doubt that I would ever be
able to lock up the rear tire with them. Actually I haven't tried the
tire lockup trick to really know, but at least I haven't had any
inadvertent surprises from the rear brake. BTW, you can lay back the
front edge of the linings with a file, if you want to try and cure your
brake locking problem.

I have one on my Eldo, mainly for the cush drive hub. It never has made
much in the way of a contribution to stopping the bike. Lately it has
begun
to lock up rather easily ( much to my surprise ) so I reckon I'll be
taking
the brake off for a looksee pretty soon.

I will agree with that. My T has the worst rear brakes of any bike I
have
ever rode. I first thought it was my bike, but I have talked to other
T
owners and they say their bikes also have awful rear brakes. I have
gotten
to the point where I do not even use them, since my bike has a dual disc
front end.
