I just got my MGNOC newsletter last night. Frank Wedge wrote a piece
about mounting up a new screen on his Le Mans, and mentioned how nice
the plexi drill was that came with the screen (from Gustaffson).
Now, I crack plexiglass when I drill it, without fail. That's just the
way I am. So, instead of drilling, I use a dremel tool with a (pink)
tapered grinding wheel to melt my way through the plastic. I get a
perfectly round hole every time and, as a bonus, I can chamfer the
edges. It's easy to start the hole where you want (I usually mark it
with a sharpie pen), and it never 'walks' on me. Make sure and choose a
grinding attachment of the appropriate diameter.
OLC: I'll use this trick to make a new screen for the ol Guzzi this
spring. I have a Wixom fairing, and have used home-despot plexiglass.
It cuts pretty easy with a bandsaw.
Cheers,
Jason
