There are not many bikes that after a full restoration you can get your
money out of (time & materials). If you figure all the cost of plating &
polishing parts & hardware, rebuilding and replacing worn out items,
rebuilding wheels, new tires, paint, and everything else you put into a
restoration, it can really get out of hand. I have a 69 BSA 650 Lightning
Scrambler I have been trying to get back on the road for the last couple of
years. I hate to see how much I have in it. In the last few years the
market for BSA's have went in the toilet for some reason. I bought this
bike to fix up and sell, so now I am stuck with it until the prices go back
up on them, if they ever do. I have seen some nice road ready BSA's selling
for less then I have in mine.

I think with the growing popularity of new guzzis, it will make more
people discover the older ones and open up the market for them. My brother
in law was lucky enough to get ahold of quite a few Indians in the mid late
70's when you could afford them. Now he is sitting on a gold mine. I think
in time people will figure out the greatness of the old Guzzi's. On the
other hand, I kind of like having an " exclusive " bike. Most people do
not even know what it is.

Hey All,

To think that I was prepared to let my 70 Ambo go for a measley $4500:-)
Sure my bike isn't anywhere close to Moe's work but another $1500 and it
would be right up there.

Frankly I think the bikes are worth that much but really supply and demand
dictates prices here in the modern world. I personally can't wait till
people wake up and recognized these bikes for what they truly
are....timeless classics...and go up in price to what Moe wants. How long
that will take is anyone's guess.....till then I intend to ride mine and
enjoy the heck out of it. Tootin' around the mountins on the bike is a
treat.

Regards...Ian
