While reassembling my forks on my '69 Ambo, I've run into a problem.
They aren't straight, and there's about a 1/2" gap between the wheel hub
and the inside of the right fork lower when I put the wheel on.
When I disassembled it, nothing seemed weird or bent and it came
apart pretty easily. Going back together, it was difficult to line up
the fork tubes in the upper triple tree, but I finally got them in far
enough to draw them up with the bolt. Sighting down the forks it's
obvious that something ain't lined up.
I've put new steering head bearings in, rebuilt the forks, and
everything has been powdercoated. In retrospect I never checked to see
if the fork tubes were bent when I had them out, but visually they
seemed fine. Assembling the triple trees and steering stem seemed to be
pretty straightforward. At this point I'm going to disassemble
everything back to the bearings and see if anything jumps out at me.
Does anyone have any comments as to what to look for?
