Some good stuff here. Thanx all!

My Mojo Jacuzzi's condition is something like what Karl wrote about. I
need to get all 3 sprockets, the chain, and the tensioner. I think I'll
go with the aftermarket gears if I can get them for a reasonable price.

Off to Ebay again...

The
gear drive engines had some differences in the front of the block from
what
I have read. I just put a set of agostini gears on my 75 850T , which
basically has the same engine as the 74 Eldo. It even has the tapped
bosses on the top of the block for the generator mount. For me the
gears
were a cheaper way to go. The chain, tensioner, and drive gears were
worn
out. The teeth on the sprockets were pointed so bad I sliced my finger
open on them. The gear set was cheaper then replacing all the chain
drive
parts. The gear set did make a difference. The throttle response is
better
and the acceleration is quicker. I just have to get used to the gear
whine
until they break in.

Ugh.. I think I'll avoid messing with moving the pump. I'll check out
the Guzziology.

I thought if the bike originally had a chain, it had the later oil pump
and dimensions to take the aftermarket gearset. It's the steel gear
setup that has a different oil pump and location, no?

 Thanks for the heads up!

The chaine and tensioner replacement is simple enoughand will last
what...50k miles? As I read through guzziology the other night, it is
noted that the oil pump has to be relocated on the chain bike to
accommodate the gears. Much fiddling, placing and drilling.

Hi there fellow lopperz,

Well the 74 LAPD is all apart and I've looked at the timing chain (and
gears) for the 1st time ... uh huh... so much slack the chain was
wearing on the side of the case. So...

I'm considering gears since I need sprockets and chain. What's your
opinion? Price vs. longevity.

Just did the sprockets and chain on the LeMans and it was pretty
straight forward.

There have been gears (and chains) on my fav. flea e-market (Ebay) but
none today.

What's yer thoughts on this...?

Thanks
