Dennis,

Yes, I bought the Valteks from Harpers. They are supposed to be
slightly louder than stock, they sound great, not too loud, but nice
deep tone at idle and strong growl when revved. As for fork oil, I may
try out the gear oil.

Growls it does, K&N's, rejetted carbs, Valtek mufflers, sounds great and
has nice pull too.

Which Valteks did you put on the Ambo? I've been thinking about the
Valteks
that Harpers sells that resemble the old Ramflo mufflers. Are those the
ones you have? The Valteks are repackable glass pack mufflers, correct?

I thought about trying an 80/90 weight gear oil, but at 1st heard it
doesn;t make a difference in these loopframe forks as they are not
valved, that the oil is just there for lube purposes. Most of the folks
I heard from, including the restorers, said to use auto trans oil so I
went with it. Think someone else said they tried 50 weight motor oil
and it seemed to smooth things out. Confused. Guess I will just try
the 80/90 wt gear oil and see what happens?

Keith, we'll have to let the loopframe experts explain this. I believe
what
you heard is correct, that there is no valving in the forks that would
suggest that different weight oil in the forks would make a difference.
Perhaps it is just the heavier viscosity of the oil as the fork tubes
decend
and rebound that makes the difference.
