Subject: Who's infected?

Had a strange e-mail and then telephone conversation today. I got an e-mail
at my work address from a Guzzi rider in Virginia telling me that my system
was infected and it sent him a virus. Both he and I have top-notch virus
protection systems. His name was vaguely familiar so I tracked him down and
telephoned. The message I ostensibly sent was unfamiliar. The message
ostensibly came from my 'work' address.

Since both of us are well protected, we surmise that someone else's system
(maybe even Topica?) sent out the infected message and somehow substituted my
address as the sender (he also received another similar from another Guzzi
writer).

My work address is registered with Topica, but I do NOT use it for regular
Guzzi mail. I limit myself to this personal AOL account for Guzzi mail and
have only used the Topica link on rare occasion when there was some account
screwup at AOL.

The only other person I know that has both of my addresses is Tim Crump.

So, someone out there is unknowingly propagating a virus (not necessarily Tim
BTW). No idea how to trace it. Glad I have protection software. Also glad
that Guzzi people recognize each others REAL names and have the courtesy to
track each other down.
