JB,
The connection between the gen light and the generator does not provide
any 'trigger' to get the generator to generate. When the ignition switch
is on, +12 V is fed via the 15/54 terminal in the circuit diagram to the
other side of the gen indicator lamp. The connection from the generator
to this lamp is a monitor of the generator output voltage. When this
voltage drops a few volts below +12, the indicator light turns on. This
signal is also connected to the D+ connection on the voltage regulator,
and is used by the regulator to provide the correct voltage to the field
of the generator (regulator terminal DF) in order to maintain the
correct voltage. If you spin the generator with the ignition turned off,
I think that the generator would in fact generate a voltage, even if
there were no connection to the indicator lamp. Now I would have to ask
why and how you would get the generator to spin with the ignition turned
off?

Marelli gen and reg. No previous wiring. Going from scratch.
I see in a website wiring diagram for a V700/750 that the reg goes
straight in the bat circuit and it appears that the only "ign key" link
is through the gen light and then back to the reg. Is that the only
trigger besides spinning the gen?
