Fred,
This thread has been a revelation for me. I finished putting my Eldo
together last fall, and since then I have noticed a type of knocking
sound coming from the engine, which stopped after the engine was warm. I
also have a T3 and have never noticed any noise from that engine. I had
thought that something in the engine was assembled incorrectly, and it
really bothered me. I was having nightmares about a loose bolt on the
big end of a connecting rod, which would come loose and cause my
expensively rebuilt engine to disintegrate.
After reading the first post on this subject I realized what my
problem was. I inspected the generator and noticed that there was
virtually no clearance between the engine case and the generator pulley.
After removing the generator and bracket, I noticed that the forward
engine 'web' to which the the front of the bracket is bolted had worn a
groove in the bottom of the bracket, probably caused by an over-tight
generator belt. I cut a piece of thin aluminum (from a Heineken beer
can) which I put under the bracket to provide more clearance for the
generator. I also shimmed the part where the locating stud is, using
some soft plastic (I thought this would work better than rubber).
Although I will not test the fix till tomorrow, I feel confident
that the rattle and knock will be cured. I will report back if it is
not.

All this talk of loose/buzzy generator brackets prompted me to pull mine

out and examine it. It shows some evidence of running with the bolts
loose and there is a nice crack from the forward hole to the edge. When

I bolted it to the block and put in the generator, the generator doesn't

quite touch the block where the locating pin is. Is theis where guys
have been adding the rubber?

I am bidding on another bracke on Ebay (Hi Mike!)
