John,
Just curious, how can you tell the "hotness" of the combustion? On mine, I
can tell one side runs hotter than the other. R side has the tan color, L
side is black. Leaning the mixture on L gives me backfires. Setting
mixture screws to spec has no backfiring but the gas mileage is under 40 with
the black plug. I suspect the L side has worn or leaking choke seals or what
ever they are called. Choke cables have free play.
Anyway, when I decide to pull the carbs off, I'll replace those, but how do I
tell if I am running hot enough or too hot?

Thanks
Pete
