and they are rebuildable. so far as I know.

how do they fit with the side covers and carbs in place?

I have the later T petcocks with the adaptor and the right side petcock is a
pita to switch to reserve.

Damn good petcocks, they worked great on my 78 R100S and 78 R100/7.

 Also, I may
as well ask now--I want to replace my petcocks with some that are
good.

These are the worst thing on the bike in my opinion. Does anyone know
of some good ones from a different bike that will work?

I like the petcocks on my 77BMW R100S and decided I wanted the same on
my Eldo. It's kind of severe, but I machined off the existing bosses
from the bottom of the tank, machined a set of 20mm male fittings and
silver soldered them onto the tank where the original bosses were.
It was a relatively simple conversion. Usually I like to stretch a job
like this out for weeks, but it only took 2 nights.
If anyone wants to see pics, email off-line.
