Will try that although the leak seems to start under the
carb manifold. Guess I'll hear the throwout bearing
crunching?
It's just my guess that it would be making some noise if it was holding
things up enough to slow down the engine.

Is that a big job to replace? I've done a lot
of mechanical work over the years, but never messed with a
clutch. Guess while I'm in there I should replace the
clutch plates and do the 2mm to 4mm thingy conversion too
(can't remember what exactly it is...will read Guzziology
tonight).
You may be able to replace it by pulling out the plunger with a magnet,
it's right behind it, although it's going to be a bitch since you're
working under the bike. Otherwise you'd have to take the swingarm off.
You don't have to pull the clutch out to do the throwout bearing,
although if you're doing the clutch you'll be pulling the engine and the
throwout bearing will be a simple thing. Do the Moto Int'l. o-ring fix
while you're in there. Guzziology mentions it.
