John,
Please hold on to them. I am going to soak the bearings in solvent to remove
the grease, regrease them then test. By hand, both sets feel OK, the outer
races feel fine also using the thumbnail test, so I am a loss but hoping
that it is just a chunk of hard grease. Should it prove otherwise, I will
take you up on your offer.
I am traveling at the moment, so it will probably be a week or so before I
get to it. This will allow me to buy a small parts washer, ala 3.5 gallon
portable, as I can justify it to my wife. The Other is coming around, she
has tolerated quite a bit so far (the 4LS, the dual seat, and looking for
cop bags).
Regards,
Ross

I've got a set of used but good steering head bearings that you can
have for free, I replaced them 'cause I took them out to powdercoat the
frame and I got a new set for free. Probably have 20M miles on them,
smooth action.

 Hi Ross,
Available at any good bearing supply house as #30205. The SKF box says
30205
J2/Q if that makes any difference (probably not). Cheers,

Charlie

Does anyone have the generic number for these bearings? I am going to
clean
them but I may end up replacing them anyway. I am the one with the
binding
steering, and I do mean binding.
