boy- too many beers or too big a hurry. sorry!!
After unhooking the linkage, and locking down the brake lever, ya gotta
apply the REAR shoe too- a large pair of vicegrips on that arm work well-
what you are attempting here is to see if both shoes are engaging at the
same time. i see Charlie offered a link- might be the same one.

Hi Pete-
a while back, someone posted a link [i didn't save it- just read it] that
said to- 1] pull the little cotter key from the rear shoe linkage [on the
front wheel brake shoe] 2] engage the front brake via the lever on the bars
[i used a welding clamp, not having a helper] 3] re-position the linkage for
the rear shoe onto the arm 4] eyeball thru the pin hole to see if it lines
up. [mine did not] if it doesn't, ya just break loose the lock nut, and
adjust until it lines up, reinstall the pin, cotter key, and tighten the
locknut. now, both shoes are gripping at the same time! mine was only 1 turn
off, but what a difference!!
also, mark's 'soft shoes' enable the brakes to actually skid the tire,
if ya so desire, can you believe that? AWESOME!!!!! i ain't skeered to ride
fast anymore! [i ALways rode like grandma, right, Ian?] :>)
