Can you see where the oil is going ? Past the seals, out the tailpipe
OR THE BREATHER TUBE ? Breather tube itis can be a problem if you
happen to have a not so good breather can. Oil getting past the rings on
Guzzis is rare but not unheard of. Usually it is ring to groove
clearance that causes oil loss past the rings.
On the whole Guzzis are pretty good at oil control at the top end .
BTW, Every loop I have owned funtioned quite well with 3 Quarts 3
Ounces of oil in the crankcase. I always use a jack under the front
while the bike is on the centerstand to insure the case is fully
drained. It is easy to leave a half quart of oil in the case if the bike
is held nose low on the stand .

Hi Guys, thanks for your responses regarding oil.I knew I would get
different opinions and preferences.I have been using 20/50 Spectro
Motorcycle oil.I have a repop owners manual that talks about a Shell oil
and says the bike holds 3 1/4 quarts. If I put 3 quarts in the bike it
brings the level up to the top mark.Iam only giving the dip stck one
turn to check the level.I think I wil try 2.5 quarts. That brings the
level half way on the stick.
I have been experiencing an oil loss problem when the bike is driven
over 65mph in hot weather. As long as I keep it at 60mph there is no
problem.I wonder if using 3 quarts is too much with the problem Iam
having. It is possible that I have a cylinder problem.Iam looking into
doing a leak down test to see what that tells me.I know the top of the
engine will need to come off for a look at the internals.
Again, thanks for your assistance.I appreciate it very much.
