One thing that will go bad on them is over the years the spring on the
flapper will lose its tension and become weak, letting oil to pass by. The
only other thing I can think of is a rust hole in it. I have seen them
before get pin holes in them and that will cause them to spray oil.

Subject: Oil breather/oil spray on engine

I purchased another Ambo (actually a 67 V700 with Ambo tanks, fenders,
side covers etc.) about a month ago and it is just a joy to drive
although looking a little cosmetically challenged. Having never driven
my other Ambo (trans problem) I'm going to just ride this one and enjoy
it while restoring the other. It is so much easier to ride and handle
than my other Guzzi, a California II.

After riding for several weeks now I have noticed that I have a coating
of oil on top of the back of the engine/trans which seems to be coming
from the oil beather tank. I haven't really got in there to check all
the clamps to see if they are tight or if the rubber hoses have any
splits but is there anything else I should be looking for?
