John,

If you go to www.mgnoc.com and go into the old articles you will see an
article that I wrote about that very series of bike. I think the article was
titled Rare Birds.

As of now I only know of four Rare Birds. Charlie has one....Scott Larson
had one but I think he just sold it. I have one (A12147) and there is one up
in Rochester....Bob Hawkes I think.

Basically this bike was the transition bike from the V700 to the Ambassador.
Greg Field talks about this series in his book Moto Guzzi Big Twins. It is
an extremely rare (and valuable :-)) bike.

Regards...Ian

Subject: engine number

Last weekend at a Guzzi breakfast I met a fellow with a white Ambo
who was interested in my early V750 sidecover decals. His bike had the
smaller tank with the early gas cap, and carbs with the remote bowl. He
wasn't sure of the year, seemed to think it was a '69. I suspect that it
may be earlier than that, and perhaps a V700. The engine number was
A12157. I remember some discussion a while back on the list about some
rare 'A' number engine, I think it was Ian who had one.
Can anyone comment on what this bike is?

Thanks,
John Prusnek
