My starter was doing this and I pulled it of and took it to an electrical motor shop. The guy clean it out and re soldered some week connections. He said it looked as if I had used a battery with not enough cranking amps. He also said that low Cranking Amps would fry the motor. That did not make a lot of since to me but the motor works better now.

Subject: Slow Cranking Starter

The starter on my 71 Ambo usually starts very slowly when I first hit the
starter button. It sounds like the battery is weak. The battery is brand
new. Did the same thing with the old battery. It always starts. Just cranks
slow or hesitates then turns slow then starts. Any ideas on what the problem
is? Have never heard anyone else's start since I don't know of any other
loopframe owners around me. Would feel more comfortable if it just cranked
without the hesitation or slow turning every time. Any ideas. Thanks,
