Some of the "rivets" are actually drive screws, round headed little
brads with a multi start fast helical thread. These are driven into an
undersize hole and hold very well. Most of them are too hard to drill
with high speed steel drill bits. If you can get at the back side with a
small punch and start to drive them out . or carefully grind the heads
off. Once the heads are ground off the drive screw can be driven
through. New drive screws are available from industrial fastener
suppliers.
