Two problems with that fix: I don't have a welder, and I have already
powder-coated the swing arm. The outer races looked good, but the inner
races and roller parts had been in the box a long time, so I figured I
could new bearings (#20302, I think) and just use the rollers and inner
races in the original outer races. But I just figured out that the new
bearings have a different contact angle between the rollers and races
than the oem bearings, so that idea is dashed. One of my inner races
and rollers are usable, so I just need to get the easier outer race (the
non-u-joint side) out and use an entire new bearing on that side.

Is there a factory (or better yet, Stephen Breton!) tool to get these
damn races out? I can't find a decenter internal race puller at any of
the rental places in town.

fire up the welder and run a thin bead around the inside of the
race. make sure you don't weld the race to the swingarm or
you'll be really hurting. the theory (and practice) is that the
heat from the welding shrinks the race a mil or two, in my case
the races fell right out without any tapping or whatnot.
