Hi Andy,
As usual the MD Rally was great! The rally was quite a bit more damp than I had hoped, but it wasn't too bad until my ride home Sat. night. Rained cats and dogs the last 7 miles and then I had to wade through 6" of water to get the bike in the shop. Fun, fun! I got to the rally around 6:30 pm Friday and Bill's chili was nearly gone. Hung around until 10:30 with Bill Sharp, his crew and other raaly attendees. Bill's doing good with only a cane and a knee brace to show for the adventure. A picture of his late, lamented Jackal was on the table with "Rest In Peace" written underneath. A few Loopers were there already - Joe Kenny and Pat Galbraith, Dennis Jones and wife, a nice white Eldo from nearby Bunker Hill, Larry Deboy from Westminster with his '69 V700 (bought for $300) and Dale Petersen had his "Converado" there.

Very interesting to talk to Dale once again and check out the Convert tranny in his Loop. He's using a automotive fuel pump (for a drag car) to circulate the ATF. He welded shut the left toolbox and welded in fittings for the hoses and fill plug. The pump and regulator (set @ 30 psi) are mounted just ahead of the rear fender on the battery tray. There's a small cooler from an unknown foreign car to keep things cool and a pressure guage to keep watch on them. Works very well from all accounts. Now he's planning to put 40mm forks from a LeMans IV on. No doubt he'll succeed.

Saturday I arrived too late to leave with any of the group rides, so I just sat and talked with other rally goers for a while. Around 11 am, a customized Stone came in with a couple from Titusville, PA on it. They'd stayed at nearby Rocky Gap St. Pk. the previous night rather than at the rally due to losing all of the under-fender wiring after hitting a bump. Without taillights and turnsignals, they decided not to press on. Carl, Ralph and others immediately pounced upon the bike and started to disassemble it to temporarily fix the wiring and reroute it outside the fender. I volunteered to run for parts (wire, shrink tubing, wire ties) and in a short time the guys had it all back working again much to the pleasure of the owner and his wife.

I was debating whether to stay for the dinner and awards at the rally or go over to Shepherdstown, WV and have dinner with the Italian Moto-Fest group. Wished I had chose the latter (sort of) while trying to saw my way through the toughest steak I've ever had, but the rest of the meal was delicious. After the door prizes, awards and raffle drawing I hung out and listened to tales of rally goers (80+ registered this year) adventures on some dirt roads (about 15 miles worth) in Western MD earlier that day, then headed of towards home (and a soaking) around 8:30. Had to rest up for the next days event, the 3rd Annual Mid-Atlantic Italian Moto-Fest. More about that tomorrow. Cheers,

Charlie.
