I'll chime in here-
i did my own, too. total cost was $28.00. that's right. don't look too bad,
either. [that's including painting the frame]- what 3-4 years ago, and still
hangingin' in!

followup question for y'all -- I'm sure it's geographical dependent,
but what are folks paying for a paintjob these days? tank, two fenders,
two sidecovers, maybe a bit of cleanup and panel beating?

I took the approach with my Eldo project to do the painting myself, I
already have an air compressor and a spray gun (20+ years old), and I'm
really Scottish (thrifty).
That was months ago, many months ago.
Since then I have sanded and primed and sanded dozens of coats off the
parts. But I'm learning.
At this point I do have the fenders with basecoat, pinstriping (painted
on) and clearcoat. The tank is needing another basecoat, then decals,
pinstriping and clearcoat. I have basecoat on the toolboxes and primer
on the battery covers.

Looking back, I think the next time I'll let Cycle Colors in
Fayetteville NC do my painting. They did the Norton for $850 and it's
beautiful.

Still to do:
Wiring and electrical
carbs
distributor
wheels and brakes
exhaust
handlebars/controls
seat

In the meantime when I get asked when I'll be finished, my standard
answer is still: "Any minute."
