I've been looking for an Amp meter for auto/bike work; something that
can handle up to 30-40 amps DC. One of those clamp over the wire meter
would be nice but they only seem to come for AC work. Most DVOMs only
handle small amp readings (milli-, micro-). I do have an ancient Sears
multi-purpose Auto tester unit (rpms, volts, dwell, amps) that will read
high amps but it is a pain to set up for a single reading.

Even HF&S sells Flukes these days; can't remember if they are
remanufactured or not.

I'd go with a Fluke. They can be expensive, but some can be gotten in the
$50 ballpark.

I've also got some cheepo Radio Shack small meters that I take with me on
trips and have served me well (like model 22-179 Pocket Digital
Multi-meter). Also, something that's helpful in a multimeter is an Amp
Meter with does not always come in the less expensive meters.

My El-Cheapo multi-tester just quit on me and I need to replace it.
Probably
with something a little better. Anyone have a favorite in the medium price
range?
