opening my original V700 brochure (!), it says:
"Beautifully finished in sparkling, irridescent silver
and rich, brilliant red offset with high lustre
chromium plated accessories..." among other things.
I guess just ask for sparkling irridescent silver?...i
have a tailight I suspect is original silver, but I've
never seen a picture of a stock bike with a silver
tailight...definitely irridescent..quite beautiful..
I love cruising on my V700. I've learned the handling
problem from the front end can be tamed right down if
you stick with lower tire pressures, but every time I
mention this I get flamed about it. I'll try again.
I put a new set of tires ME77, front tire reversed, on
the V700, and promptly filled them to 34 front, 38
rear, (about what I use on a stripped Convert) and was
scared sh#$less floundering left and right all over
the road at 55-65 mph...
back to the garage, and believing in the old adage if
all else fails read the directions, the factory manual
says 21 front, 24 rear...okay lets try that...hmmm
very interesting... a little adjusting, and more miles
and I've settled to 24 front and 28 rear, with no
fairings, no rear crashbars, no monster saddlebags.
Handles like it should..
drives and handles quite nice thank you. MUCH better
than my same year BMW by the way...love the right foot
shift...just had to learn that 4th gear is really an
overdrive...better to carry 3rd wwaaayyyyy up there to
65 70 mph to keep up the response/acceleration...flip
it into 4th if you want to loaf...
I understand many of these burned to the ground from
the leaky SS1 carbs...I sorted out the breathing with
29 Dellortos and different manifolds...it's important
to keep the inlet adapters that fit between the carb
gaskets at the head...they increase the speed of the
airflow on the intake...supposedly it covers a mistake
Guzzi made in casting the heads, later corrected on
Ambass/Eldo...I'm surprised the V700 isn't more
collectable/ looked for considering they are the first
effort at the V twin, and it kicked the BMW's butt
with horsepower, handling, and braking...I get to say
that cuz I drove an 67 R60/2 for 80,000 miles, give me
the Guzzi any day...
