I have found that for really messy parts - wash with foaming engine bright
or simple green and then use 0000 steel wool and rubbing compound to get the
crap off before polishing. I have never used Mother's but I am a big fan of
Never Dull.
I agree - do it yourself - it is incredibly rewarding to see 30 year old
metal shine and I find it pretty relaxing to hit the polishing wheel with a
couple of barleypops and some tunes.
