It looks like Guzziology says the following: "ignoring any reference to up
and down and just making sure the holes as well as the flats along one rod
bolt hole are on the side closest to the right cylinder." This can be found
on page 5-32 if you have Guzziology.

 OK, Putting the lump back together and got a question on the rods. Which
way do the oil holes on the big ends fit. The manual I have says "left
rod faces up and right rod faces down" or something. I don't know what
this means unless the engine is assumed to be lying on it's side. What I
really need to know is if the oil holes face outboard or inboard on each
side. Or even easier, which way does the stamped "Moto Guzzi" on the
rods face?
