Charles,
Sounds like you need an introduction to Moto Guzzi. Moto Guzzi solves the
ground clearance problem without giving up anything in reliability.
Indeed
since most folks don't even know what it is, there is no dress code,
except
perhaps a dashing Italian flavour. And comfortable riding Guzzis can be
transformed into fearsome twins racer types, so sport touring to race
bike
accomodations, unlike the BMW which fares ill in the various twins races
these days due to the ground clearance problem although it is an
excellent
touring bike.

With my MHR on one side, and the 77 Le Mans Moto Guzzi on the other, the
Guzzi usually gets the nod even if both were in street form.

Now however, I find myself thinking of an electric start beveldrive twin
for
hops, something like a Darmah perhaps. (no, not a blue one Tom).

 Ken,
I figure a BMW is something I could comfortably ride
100 miles on straight (ish) road to get to the more interesting
stuff. I eventually want to change my focus from hell raising, to
sport touring, but so far I have been narrowly focused on enjoying
the performance, handling, sounds, and outrageous nature of my
uncivilized beasts.

The last time I rode a BMW I noticed that it was
a wonderful machine, and my only complaints were ground clearance,
weight, and the fact that I felt too much like I should be wearing a
business suit instead of leathers
I am hoping that a BMW, even though it is a very capable bike, would
allow me to enjoy a slightly slower pace and less intensity in my old
(er) age. Charles
