Thanks for all of the suggestions on goo removal. I bought some S100 today and that seems to do an okay job if I let it work for a while and scrub with a toothbrush. Tomorrow I plan to work at it some more - the front wheel and forks are already looking nice. In the end though it looks like a complete disassembly will be needed to get it as clean as I want it. That will give me a chance to do all the stuff I usually do to a "new" bike anyway (lube splines, clean all of the electrical connections and coat them, replace rotted rubber bits, etc.).

Once I'm finished it will be a nice but not perfect Sport - the frame has rust spots, some of the chrome is slightly pitted, the paint shows some wear and the seat has small tears and cracks. Just how I want it in other words! Any nicer and I'd be afraid to ride it, any worse and I'd have to restore it. It will be a perfect "mate" for my old '69 Ambo. I still can't believe I actually own one finally! Cheers,

Charlie
p.s. If anyone wants "before" pics, I took a few today.
