Hi Bryan,
You could replace it with another Marelli, but parts are getting hard to find for them. A Bosch from an Eldorado would probably be a better bet - more powerful and parts should be more readily available. <<As an aside, does anyone know if the Bosch starter from an Airhead BMW will work? The cutout on the nose is correct, but how about the teeth and rotation?>> Just a thought. Check with Mark @ Moto Guzzi Classics and Moe @ Cycle Garden for rebuilt units of either brand. Here's a link to MG Cycle's online catalog page with starters and stuff:http://www.mgcycle.com/starter.htmlAnd as usual, look on eBay - you might a good one there for a reasonable price. That's all I can think of at the moment. Hope this helps,

Charlie

Well, after the starter smoked I took it off the bike and took a look inside.
It appears that the solinoid stuck and did not allow the starter to shut
down and caused major damage in side(at least thats my guess). The bracket
that holds the brushes in place burned through and one of the brushes melted
on to the armature. Not sure what to do but look for another starter.
Anyone have any suggestions? New? Used? What replaces a Marelli starter?

Bryan
