I haven't been following this one so I may be redundant again (Deja vue
!) Any how here goes and disregard if you see fit :-));

Have you tried new plugs ? You may have a leaky start plunger in the
carb. A leaky start plunger will cause a rich condition that will soon
kill a good plug.
As far as a coil , use the VW Blue coil ,they can be had for 20 or 30
bucks . Make sure the coil you use does NOT require an external ballast
reistor . The main function of the external ballast is to limit the
current to the coil in thwe event the igniton is left ON while the
engine is not running. If the points are closed the current without a
resistor will cause the coil to overheat and they WILL explode ,sometime
a fire will follow the exploding coil. I have seen it more than once .
Really cool looking when it is someone elses machine. It blows out a
copper wire slinky about 60 feet long and when the hot oil ignites it
makes a beautiful GREEN fire !

As far as the one side thing goes it sure sounds like a plug or a wire
or cap/rotor. If it is a plug you are back to the beginning . Of course
a bad wire cap rotor etc could be the cause as well.
If the deposits on the plug are real oily ,not wet carbon but OIL ringd
or guides are suspect. Fix the cheap stuff first.

I know this is annoying but my ambo is not firing, again, on the
starboard side (de javue all over again). Battery may need replacing
again, as this is what seem to cure it last time but..........
Do you guys clean your old spark plugs or just go out and buy new ones?
Also, if coils go bad, and I see by this list that they seldom do, do
you get OEM coils or old VW coils or what? If it costs too much for OEM
then how do you know that a VW or a Kmart coil is right for your ambo?
Thanks, Bob
