Charlie,
A few years back I was at the local Cycle World Bike Show &
saw a set of raingear that was pretty cool. They were called "Frog Togs" &
made out of some sort of space-aged material manufactured from recycled
Pepsi bottles or some such nonsence. The interesting thing with this
material was that it breaths real well, like Goretex I guess. Their display
had one jacket draped over a dishpan with a puddle of water laying on
it-water wouldn't pass through the material. Next to the first jacket was a
second jacket draped over a steam vaporizer & the steam passed through the
material like a screen door. My experience with rain gear is that in most
cases I end up wetter with it on than if I would have left it off because of
the condensation that forms inside. This stuff looked like the hot ticket. I
have a buddy here in St Louis-he is retired & rides about 15-20k miles a
year. I mentioned the Frog Togs to him & he said "Oh yeah, I've had a pair
for about 3 years-works good." - real matter-of-fact about it, like "where
have you been?"

The sales brochure I picked up was directed towards golfers so
it must pack down pretty small. And it did seem to be pretty tough stuf-if
my buddy didn't complain about build quality it must be pretty good. I don't
recall leg zippers, but the material didn't seem sticky like Vinyl, so
passing your boot down the leg should't be too difficult. Don't remember the
collar. Not sure about colors. Kinda pricey, around $80 if I remember
correctly. I think I may have the brochure still, but I bet a Google search
would find it.

I've personally never tried these items, but I thought you might
like to know. Generally, I hate rainsuits because when you wear them, it's
raining, and I hate riding in the rain. But this one, being able to breath,
looked like it might be ok. Let me know if you want me to look for the
brochure-I think I know right where it is.

Hope this helped,

Joe in St Louis
