Mark @ Moto Guzzi Classics suggested using the cork oil filler cap gasket
from an old VW bug. Works pretty good.

Sounds strange, but when I needed a gas cap gasket for
my Simson while living in Romania, a local cycle
mechanic sold me one made of thick felt. I was
doubtful, but it never leaked at all! The fit was
quite tight.
