When I read the initial post on this, I thought to myself, self, unless
the steering head bearings are totally shot and loose, there's no way
the stiffness of the forks would make the risers hit the tank, since
they are rigidly mounted to the top triple clamp.

reply was the same as Greg's! He said they appear from banging the tank
on the handlebar risers. Then he told me that there three different
styles of hb risers. Straight, semi curved,fully curved. So if you are
building a bike from parts and are changing the risers, make sure that
they have the same arc!!!
