Jason, I would check the enrichers (chokes), too. If
they are not sealing properly it could cause problems
when the engine is warm, and would make your plugs
black.

I had similar problems when I had rust in the tank on
my XS750. It clogged up lots of little things -
petcocks, filter screens in the carbs, etc, but it
passed enough gas to ride 35 mph or slower.

plenty of gas at
slower speeds (it accelerates great). I think there
must be something
wrong with my carburetors. I have not had time to go
through them yet,
though. Today I had a plug foul out today
(Black/sooty) and I can not seem
to get the bike to maintain an idol on its own. I will
check the
accelerator pump pistons to make sure they are both
correctly installed."
