Harry,
All I can do is report what I saw, did I unintentionally move the distributor 2 teeth every time I changed it ? Possible, but it didn't feel like it. I don't know. Thinking about what Mike said, it may be that he was talking about bikes where the distributors had been reversed at some time in their history, & the fix he described was to put them right. He mentioned the wide contact on the rotor and that one cylinder fires off the back and the other off the front as the rotor contact sweeps by the spark plug contacts in the distributor cap, and said "with points it will run that way". When you look at it, it does seem as if the #1 cylinder should come off the "bottom" terminal and #2 off the "top" instead of crossing like it comes from the factory.
