For once I still had power and full luxuries out on the farm. We are
about 50 miles from Detroit and just on the edge of the affected
communities.

Once the chaos started on Friday, I did what any thinking man would do.
Leave the highways to the panic stricken masses and go to the
neighborhood pub. I sort of prefer Detroit city driving when all traffic
signals are out. Natural selection takes over. After a few beers, I went
over to my in-laws to wire up their generator. They had a generator, but
no idea how to wire it up, and only a little fuel. It is amazing how few
people are prepared for something like this.

If the power had been off for a few more days, it could have been really
ugly. There was no gas, no water, no power. The few stores that could
operate were soon out of essential supplies. On Friday, the foragers were
heading out of Detroit in every direction looking for gas, water , food,
generators, etc. You couldn't get near any gas stations in the small town
where I live. It was pretty much like scenes from Mad Max.

I actually had a real nice and productive weekend.

I'll have to get over and check out your 'ol smoker. Takes me back to my
'yoof.

 Hey all,
What a pain in the ass. Sure the day(s) the earth(DEtroit) stood
still was
cool at first but after the novelty wore off, it just about sucked.
No
power, no water, people panicking, lines around the corner for just
about
everything.
Thursday I left work after normal time, had no idea the size of the
problem.
e-ways were parking lots, once home, called a couple friends and sat
around
the table drinking. Very cool, weird quite dark. Like I said very
cool the
first night, but after that, I got crap to do. House projects,
motorcycle
projects, insurance crap for the ambo I don't have time for this!!
I would of loved to ride around town. Nobody was out. There was a 10
pm
curfew install in some cities.
Friday around 6pm we got the call the one of our bars was open, off
we went.
Just beer, no ice. The water did come back on by Friday morning, but
you
still couldn't drink it=no ice. We got power back around 7pm. The
bar I work
at on the weekends didn't get power 'till 10pm. No work.
Saturday business back to norm. Except we still have to boil water,
PIMA.
Sat. I did some work on the waterbuffalo. The thing actually runs
after
sitting forever, I'm gonna try to get that thing roadworthy while
waiting
for the ins.co to get off their ass and give me my ambo back.
I think I should contract out to the cities around here. I could
fumigate
for mosquitoes/west nile! filled my buddy Kevins neiborhood. The
thing
sounds awesome. Low growl to it. I think I'll have to be a part
time
smokerider.
