MN rally

Sonya (my wife) and I just got back yesterday from the MN rally. We
took the slow way up there and home. It was a great rally- nice roads,
good people and food. Every thing you want and nothing you don't. I
don't know how the organizers got rid of mosquitos in northern MN, but
there weren't any. Voodoo? Clean living? Thanks to the organizers and
participants for making it a great time.
If you have a chance to drive up north of Duluth, toward the Canadian
border- do it. Dang, but that's some nice countryside, and the temps
are 20 degrees cooler along Lake Superior than inland. Lot's of trees,
long sweeping corners and roads are in excellent shape. Aron of St. Paul
posted some pics (including our bikes) on yahoo- the address is

I took the '74 Eldorado up, and Sonya took her '04 Breva. That's 30
years between the bikes, which matches the difference between Sonya's
and my emotional development. You can guess who's more mature, but
Sonya won 'youngest rider', LOL. I won a t-shirt and traded it for the
MGNOC tips book number 1. YES! If you haven't bought this book, do it.
Do it now.
Both bikes ran without a hickup for 1400 miles of course. The Eldo was
a pleasure to drive and got lots of positive comments. There were 4
eldo's at the rally that I saw, including mine, so not bad turnout. I'd
say more, but the bikes just performed flawlessly. Couple of notes: I
would like a different fairing now- the Harley knockoff I'm using tends
to vibrate at high speed and knock my head around. Sonya needs a decent
fairing too (she has the tiny flyscreen). We averaged about 65 mph into
a 15-20 mph headwind. That kind of beats on you after awhile. I might
also be thinking about a gel or air pad for my butt. 10 hours- get's
old. I bought a throttle rocker at Aerostich (see below) which vastly
improved my riding pleasure. The springs on those del orto's are stiff.

On saturday, we drove 2 hrs down to Duluth to go to the Aerostich 'very
boring rally'. It was ok- wide range of bikes, and we got a free pin
(woohoo). But what was really cool was that we met Gary Cheek and some
of his riding friends there. I recruited Gary and Co. to drive the 2
hrs back to the MN rally where we all hung out and had a grand time.
Last I saw, they were headed North over Superior back to MI.
All in all, a nice finish to the summer.

Cheers,
Jason
