Hi, all. I'm still cogitating on this electronic
ignition thing, weighing the arguments con against any
arguments pro that I can dream up, just hoping that
somehow I can justify the expense...

OK, here's my latest shot at expense-justification:

I figure that this fancy electronic ignition,
especially in cahoots with their high-output coil,
will provide a stronger spark, which will contribute
to more complete combustion, leading to slightly
better gas mileage. This may be a fairly small
improvement, but it's not nothing. Also, the
consistently spot-on ignition timing for BOTH
cylinders (given that one has good advance springs,
which I do) should lead to an additional small
improvement in gas mileage. My bike gets around 45mpg.
Perhaps this new setup would bring that up to 46 mpg?
Does that sound reasonable?

Gas here (premium) costs around $1.75/gallon. That
equals 3.9 cents a mile on my bike. Harpers price for
the electronic ignition is around $330, as I remember.
Therefore the 1 mpg improvement in gas mileage would
pay for the ignition in 8,462 miles. Is my math
correct? That is pretty fast savings, I think.

So after about 2 years of riding I will be able to
enjoy the increased power and gas mileage of the new
setup, plus the reduced maintenance and increased
reliability (I hope, but this last one is an untested
hypothesis) for free.

Does this sound convincing? Perhaps after I finish
paying for my kids' braces I'll spring for an
electronic ignition!
